Question quotation

Ask Our Doctors a Question…

What is glaucoma?

Dr. Furr: Glaucoma is a chronic disease that affects the health of your optic nerves, which are the cables that run from your eyes to your brain. It typically progresses slowly in both eyes and can lead to loss of side vision, or even blindness, if not detected and treated early. Glaucoma is usually associated with increased eye pressure, but you can still have glaucoma with normal eye pressure.

What is dry eye syndrome?

Dr. Colston: Stated simply, dry eye syndrome is a condition in which a person does not have enough quality tears to lubricate and nourish the eye. Not only can this be uncomfortable but tears are necessary for maintaining a healthy front surface of the eye and for providing clear vision.

How do I know if I have dry eyes?

Dr. Colston: I always ask patients, at any point of the day can you “feel” your eyes? Do they get red? Do they water? Do they feel tired? All of these are classic symptoms of dry eye syndrome. After looking at your eyes and a few simple tests we can determine if the source of these problems is dry eyes, allergies, or an infection.

We are privileged to live in an advanced age at the turn of the 21st century. Electronic devices are everywhere in our world today and make our everyday interactions with the world around us ever easier, safer and more convenient. Although many positive effects have resulted from these devices in our everyday lives, a dangerous side exists to all of this progress and convenience.

Patients who spend hours on electronic devices are at increased risk of eyestrain and glare, macular degeneration or problems falling asleep at night. Learn how to protect yourself, contact our office in NW Dallas today.
